This Privacy Policy describes how personal data is collected, used, retained, and protected from individuals who visit this website, particularly those who complete the contact form or subscribe to the newsletter of the Special Rapporteur on the Rights to Freedom of Peaceful Assembly and of Association.
This website is an independent informational platform associated with the work of the mandate holder. It is not part of the official infrastructure of the United Nations or the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), and is therefore not subject to the privacy policies of those entities. The mandate itself was established by the Human Rights Council (Resolution 15/21, renewed by Resolution 59/4); this website serves as a communication and outreach channel for its work.

3. Data We Collect

Contact form: name, email address, and the content of the message submitted, including any other information the user chooses to include in the body of the message.
Newsletter subscription: email address and, where requested, name.
We do not collect personal data through tracking cookies, advertising pixels, or third-party analytics tools. The website may use strictly technical cookies that are necessary for its basic operation (for example, to remember language preferences) and that do not identify the user.
4. Purpose of Processing
The data collected is used exclusively to:
Respond to inquiries or communications submitted through the contact form.
Send the newsletter to individuals who have voluntarily subscribed, containing information related to the work of the mandate, including statements, reports, and activities.
The data is not used for commercial or advertising purposes, nor are automated profiles created of users.
5. Legal Basis for Processing
The processing of personal data is based on the user’s explicit consent, provided voluntarily when completing the contact form or subscribing to the newsletter.
This consent may be withdrawn at any time, as described in Section 8.
6. Data Retention
Data provided through the contact form is retained for as long as necessary to address the inquiry and thereafter for a maximum period of 12 months from the user’s last interaction, for follow-up or internal record-keeping purposes. After this period, the data will be securely deleted.
Newsletter subscription data is retained for as long as the individual remains subscribed and is deleted when the individual unsubscribes or expressly requests its deletion.
7. With Whom We Share Data
Personal data is not sold, rented, or disclosed to third parties for commercial purposes.
Data is accessed only by the technical service providers that enable the website to operate and the newsletter to be distributed, to the extent necessary to provide those services and subject to their respective privacy policies and confidentiality obligations:
Hostinger: hosting provider for the website, which is built on WordPress. Hostinger stores the website’s technical data and messages submitted through the contact form.
Mailchimp: platform used to manage subscriptions and distribute the newsletter. Mailchimp stores the email addresses, and names where provided, of subscribers.
These providers may store or process data in countries other than the user’s country of residence (see Section 11).
8. User Rights
Any individual whose personal data is processed through this website may, at any time:
Request access to the personal data held about them.
Request the correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
Request the deletion of their data.
Withdraw their consent and unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time, either through the link included in each newsletter or by contacting the email address provided below.

9. Data Security
Reasonable technical and organizational measures are implemented to protect personal data against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse.
However, no system for transmitting or storing data over the Internet can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
10. Minors
This website is not directed at minors and does not knowingly collect personal data from minors.
If it becomes known that data belonging to a minor has been received without the verifiable consent of their parent or legal guardian, such data will be deleted.
11. International Data Transfers
Because the website and its service providers may operate from different countries, personal data may be transferred to and stored outside the user’s country of residence.
